MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Garrett Spurgeon of the No. 1-ranked West Virginia University rifle team finished first overall on the second day of competition at the USA Shooting Winter Airgun Championships, held today at the Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
“Garrett had a good day overall, and I think everyone improved as a whole,” said coach Jon Hammond. “Mike (Michael Bamsey) and Meelis (Kiisk) also shot very well today, and Ginny (Thrasher) continues to show improvement every day. I’m looking forward to the final day of competition tomorrow.”
Spurgeon was the only Mountaineer that advanced to the open finals, as he placed second in the 10m air rifle men’s open competition, shooting 623.
