MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A spring game played in the snow doesn’t seem very spring-like, so West Virginia has ditched Saturday afternoon’s Gold-Blue game.
With freezing temperatures and a 70-percent chance of snow in the weekend forecast, athletics director Shane Lyons made the cancellation Thursday.
“When you have snow predicted for much of the state on Saturday, we need to take the utmost caution to assure the safety of our student-athletes, while also avoiding elements that are problematic for our fans,” Lyons said.
The school’s ticket office guaranteed refunds to fans who purchased tickets in advance.
