Second-seeded West Virginia will meet the winner of Texas Tech and TCU in Thursday night’s quarterfinal round of the Big 12 tournament.
The Mountaineers (24-7, 13-5) swept both teams this season and are 16-1 head-to-head since joining the Big 12. Of course WVU has yet to win in three tournament trips to Kansas City, including a last-second loss to Texas Tech in 2013.
Looking ahead to the Friday semifinal, West Virginia’s draw would bring either third-seeded Oklahoma or No. 6 seed Iowa State. Playing the early game of Thursday’s evening session affords WVU a few hours’ extra rest over the Sooners/Cyclones survivor.
