MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia coach Randy Mazey blamed a 79-minute rain delay for costing his team momentum. It certainly cost him pitching ace BJ Myers.
Leading by two runs when storms interrupted action after four innings, the Mountaineers were forced into their bullpen once play resumed and No. 5 Texas Tech rallied for a 4-3 win to complete a doubleheader sweep Saturday night.
“We were winning when it started raining and losing at the end, so that was a big difference,” Mazey said. “It seemed like their energy got a lot better after the rain delay because, maybe BJ was out of it.
