The Mountaineers are slated to compete against five teams that were ranked in the final 2016 CRCA/ US Rowing Coaches Poll and four teams that competed at the 2016 NCAA Rowing Championships.
West Virginia will open the spring season in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, at the Cardinal Invitational from March 11-12. Twelve teams will be competing in the three-round invitational: Clemson, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Tulsa, Virginia and West Virginia.
“We’ll open at the always challenging Cardinal Invite where three, perhaps four schools, will appear in the national pre-season rankings,” coach Jimmy King said, “The opportunity to compete against some of the country’s best on the course where the Big 12 Championship will be contested at season’s end is very worthwhile to us.
