MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rutgers goalkeeper Casey Murphy was unbeatable for 110 scoreless minutes, but West Virginia’s Rylee Foster proved better in the shootout.
Foster stopped two shots as the No. 7 Mountaineers advanced 4-3 on penalty kicks after a scoreless draw in Friday night’s NCAA second-round match.
“Rylee was definitely focused and fierce all week long in net,” said West Virginia coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “She showed everybody exactly what she could do.”
West Virginia (16-3-3), which moved into the round of 16 for the third straight season, will host No. 10 Penn State on Sunday.
