Down 17 points in the fourth quarter of a 2005 matchup against Louisville, the Mountaineers and a half-full Milan Puskar Stadium looked on as their injured quarterback, Adam Bednarik, was helped off the field. In his place stepped Pat White, a gangly freshman about whom much was whispered but little was known.
White and fellow freshman Steve Slaton led the Mountaineers to an improbable 46-44 triple-overtime victory.
