Parade of pitchers, missed chances mark 4-1 loss to Baylor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A belt-high fastball over the outer half of the plate could’ve been the strikeout pitch West Virginia’s Kade Strowd needed to escape a fifth-inning jam.

When it was called a ball, Baylor’s most dangerous hitter Davis Wendzel made the most of his second chance.

Wendzel drilled the next pitch off the centerfield wall for a two-out, two-run double that put the Bears ahead to stay in a 4-1 victory Friday. The weekend series will be decided Saturday in the regular-season finale.

The loss means West Virginia (27-24, 9-14) can do no better than seventh-place in the nine-team Big 12, and its 14 conference losses matched the most in seven seasons since realignment.
