The teams, both NCAA Tournament quarterfinalists in 2015, did not play any overtime periods, but they did partake in a shootout, which the Mountaineers won, 7-5.
“It was good to see how the team adjusted and implemented the lessons learned from Michigan,” WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “We were able to add in a lot that that we’ve worked on, and we continue to learn a lot about ourselves. Ultimately, this was a good day against a great opponent.”
Sophomore forward Sh’Nia Gordon put the Mountaineers on the board first, scoring in the third minute off a ball from senior defender Carly Black.
