Sunday’s matchup is a battle between two 2015 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight squads; neither team advanced to the College Cup.
“We’re looking forward to having another opportunity to play a high-level opponent like Virginia,” Mountaineer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “Tomorrow’s match provides us with a second chance to see the areas we will need to work on in order to continue our development as a team. We are all eager to get back on the field.”
The Mountaineers opened exhibition play with a 2-2 draw against Michigan on Aug. 8, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Down 1-0 early in the second half, sophomore forward Grace Cutler and junior midfielder Carla Portillo scored back-to-back goals to give WVU a lead it would maintain until the 90th minute, when UM tallied its second goal with 27 seconds remaining.
