With all eyes on the Big 12 this season it seemed only fitting that the first conference game of the season went to double-overtime as the No. 19 Mountaineers survived for an 87-83 victory at Kansas State on Saturday afternoon.
West Virginia led for just 9:31 during the contest that featured 29 lead changes and 19 ties, but it did not matter as the grit and depth of the Mountaineers proved to be too much for the Wildcats.
“I told them for three days that we have to lift them because we’re not going to be able to run the curls and stuff,” coach Bob Huggins said.
