Skyler Howard threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Shelton Gibson, Josh Lambert kicked a pair of field goals and the defense remains unscored upon as the Mountaineers take a 20-0 lead over Liberty at halftime.
The Mountaineer offense was 4-for-4 on their first four drives of the half, West Virginia’s other touchdown coming when Wendell Smallwood recovered his fumble in the end zone, and it could have had more points on its last possession of the half.
After Liberty kicker John Lunsford missed his third field goal attempt, a 31-yarder, West Virginia drove to the Flame 37 where Lambert was forced to try a 54-yard field goal.
