MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After approaching a 1,000-yard receiving season as a high school junior receiver, Mike O’Laughlin gained momentum as a college tight end recruit.
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound O’Laughlin committed to West Virginia late Saturday, spurning offers from Cincinnati, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan and a host of mid-major programs.
O’Laughlin made 54 catches, 939 yards and eight receiving touchdowns last season at Fenwick High in Oak Park, Ill. He helped the Friars reach the Class 7A state semifinals.
He becomes the third pledge for WVU’s 2018 class.
