No. 3-seed West Virginia (24-9, 12-6 Big 12) advanced to the program’s 16th overall conference tournament semifinal appearance and the first since 2014 with a 74-65 victory over No. 6-seed Kansas State on March 5, in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship quarterfinal. The Mountaineers then fell, 67-51, to No. 2-seed Texas in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship semifinal, on March 6.
