MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia-Maryland game recently has been a bellwether of sorts, a sign that the matchup’s winner could be on its way to a strong year. If the 2015 iteration of the series follows that trend, the Mountaineers could be on the verge of something special.
Wendell Smallwood scampered for a career-high 147 yards and a touchdown, Skyler Howard threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns, and West Virginia raced out to a 38-0 halftime lead en route to a 45-6 dismantling of the Terrapins (2-2) at Milan Puskar Stadium.
In their final non-conference game of the regular season, the Mountaineers (3-0) gained 601 total yards, ran just shy of 100 plays and had 37 first downs, the last of which broke a program single-game record set in 1923.
