MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Mountaineer sophomore safety Kerry “KJ” Martin, Jr. says he’s opting out of the coming football season because of the coronavirus.
Martin, a Capital High School graduate. posted a message on Twitter Wednesday morning saying after talking with his family they feel it’s better for to opt out of the coming season “due to my family and own personal health issues.” Martin mentioned sickle cell and asthma as two of those issues.
Martin said he’s also opting out because he doesn’t feel his body matches his mental state to play the game.
Martin said he’ll be back for his redshirt sophomore season in 2021.
