MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Unlike its previous blowouts this season, No. 15 West Virginia didn’t put away VMI early. But the Mountaineers separated themselves with a solid second half for a 90-55 victory Saturday.
Daxter Miles sank 5-of-6 from 3-point range, becoming the first Mountaineer to score 20 points this season. Esa Ahmad added 12 points for West Virginia (8-1), which pulled away by outscoring VMI 52-30 in the second half.
“We needed to pick it up in the second half,” Miles said.
Reserve forward Brandon Watkins produced his second career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
