MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A boisterous crowd welcomed home the West Virginia University women’s basketball team on Tuesday at the Basketball Practice Facility, as the Mountaineers continued their celebration as the 2017 Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament Champions.
West Virginia (23-10) achieved the improbable by knocking off No. 3-seed Oklahoma (82-58) on Saturday, No. 2-seed Texas (62-59) on Saturday and toppling top-seeded and No. 2-nationally ranked Baylor (77-66) on Monday.
“It’s great to be home. Seems like we’ve been away from home for three weeks,” coach Mike Carey exclaimed after he collected his first tournament title win. “Our players were so focused.
