MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Layups are so easy that they’ve become part of the English vernacular.
“That should be a total layup,” might be the description someone uses when talking about a business deal, home-improvement project or when asking someone on a date. Regardless of the occasion, the point is that there is virtually no chance of failure.
But not even layups were a layup for West Virginia on Monday night at WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers were a mind-boggling 38.4 percent (10-for-26) on layup attempts in their 85-73 loss to Baylor.
Bob Huggins didn’t want to provide specifics on why he thought the Mountaineers did such a poor job of shooting bunnies, but he sure as heck doesn’t think it was fatigue even though West Virginia was playing its second game in three days.
