Guessing game precedes Josh Heupel’s mystery offense of merged ideas

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In three head-to-head victories against West Virginia, coordinator Josh Heupel’s offenses at Oklahoma averaged 37 points and 536 yards.

His methods, however, were hardly identical, and what he plans to attempt with Missouri’s offense on Saturday remains a mystery.

Heupel, fired by Bob Stoops in January 2015, resurfaced at Utah State last season where the injury-riddle Aggies were uninspiring: 64th in scoring, 93rd in total offense, 77th in passing efficiency, 99th in third-down conversion, 118th in red-zone offense.

That leaves public perception slightly split on Heupel, the highest-paid Missouri assistant ever at $700,000.
