MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia pulled ahead on Ray Guerrini’s two-run suicide squeeze in the eighth and held on for a 4-3 win in Friday’s home opener.
“Ray’s a great bunter,” said coach Randy Mazey, whose team improved to 8-3. “We kind of figured they would come after him in the strike zone, because they didn’t want to walk the bases loaded. So I put all my faith in our oldest, veteran guy, and he came through in spades.”
