Gray’s clutch hit helps WVU outlast Herd in 13 innings

CHARLESON, W.Va. — After five-plus hours of shaky and soggy baseball, West Virginia capitalized on Kyle Gray’s go-ahead single in the 13th inning to beat Marshall 11-10 on Tuesday night.

“I’d stay out here all night if I have to to win a game, and I thought we were going to have to for a while,” Mountaineers coach Randy Mazey said. “That’s one of the ugliest games you’ll ever see two teams play. It’s not a great game, but it’s really hard to win an extra-inning game on the road.”

Through a combined eight errors and 21 walks, the teams overcame inclement conditions to squeeze in their midweek Capital Classic at Appalachian Power Park.
