MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Madelin Gardner of the West Virginia University track and field team claimed the women’s pole vault title on Saturday, at the Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia, at George Mason Stadium.
Highlighted by Gardner’s victory in the women’s pole vault, West Virginia collected seven top-seven finishes. Gardner, a native Williamstown, West Virginia, won the pole vault with a clearance 3.85 meters, winning the event by .15 meters. Junior Rebekah Lafata and freshman Greer Gumbrecht tied for 10th, registering 3.40 meters.
West Virginia notched a top-three finish in the women’s 800 meters, thanks to redshirt freshman Candace Jones, placing third with a career-best time of 2:09.
