RIO, Brazil — Olympic gold medalist and Mountaineer shooter Ginny Thrasher came up one shot short of making the finals in her second Olympic event Thursday morning.
Thrasher, who struck gold in the Women’s 10 Meter Air Rifle event and earned the first gold medal of the 2016 games in Rio, finished 11th in the three-position qualifier with a final score of 581. The second to last shot of the match was her undoing when Thrasher hit an “8”.
The Mountaineer rifle team will still be well represented in the finals later today as former WVU shooter and All American Petra Zublasing, shooting for Italy, finished first in the qualifier with a score of 589.
