Williams had announced his intentions to seek an opportunity to play professionally, following his illustrious three-year career with the West Virginia basketball team.
That announcement did not come as a total shock to WVU fans because Williams’ really was the inside leader for the team this past season. He made an impact right away seeing solid playing time as a freshman, but Williams really came into his own during his junior year.
He struggled early, fighting off double-teamed defenses, but flourished in the Big 12 Conference Tournament, leading the Mountaineers to the title game. With his career-high 31 points, Williams and the Mountaineers nearly pulled out a win over Kansas, after leading at halftime, for the program’s first Big 12 championship.
