Desperate times: Mountaineers survive OSU rally to win in extras

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Rebounding from a deflating ninth inning in which a two-run lead vanished, West Virginia forced No. 16 Oklahoma State into extras and won 5-4 on Jackson Cramer’s walk-off homer in the 10th.

“We played too good not to win,” said Cramer, who hit two solo shots in Friday night’s series opener after homering three times in this season’s first 81 at-bats. “We deserved this one.”

Coming off two midweek losses to Canisius—which coach Randy Mazey called “the lowest point of my time here”—the Mountaineers (13-10, 3-3) were desperate.

Right-hander Chad Donato provided the optimism and came within one out of a complete-game two-hitter when Garrett Benge’s three-run homer pushed Oklahoma State (18-8, 3-1) ahead 4-3 in the top of the ninth.
