Defense shows their strength in a hurry

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Going as far back as spring practice, the West Virginia defense had been told over and over about Georgia Southern’s offense, of the dangers and trickery it posed. If you weren’t careful, the Mountaineers were told, you may face the same fate other major-conference teams did – either a loss or one hell of a scare.

As unsettling as those words were, they prompted action and tireless preparation for an offensive scheme almost no player had ever faced.

During the final moments of West Virginia’s victory Saturday night, in front of a stadium that began to empty out from a game that had long been decided, it was clear that one unit had lived up to its lofty billing in its first public unveiling of the season.
