Davis’ freshman season in 2015 was certainly one to remember. The Cincinnati, Ohio, resident led the Mountaineers with a .353 batting average and 17 doubles as a first-year college player against Big 12 pitching.
The former walk-on admitted earlier this week that even he was a little bit surprised with the success he enjoyed last season.
“I walked on here and my dad told me to come here and have fun (his first season),” Davis said. “They obviously saw something they liked in me to give me a roster spot. It’s major college baseball and very few people get to do it so whatever happens, happens and if I did well great, and if I didn’t do well I wasn’t expected to anyway so I could just go from there.
