MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Justin Crawford nearly outran Tavon Austin, but even his 331-yard performance Saturday night couldn’t keep West Virginia competitive against Oklahoma.
The junior running back came within 13 yards of matching Austin’s single-game school rushing record, which occurred against these same Sooners in this same stadium four years ago. Whereas that 2012 thriller saw Oklahoma rally for a 50-49 win in the closing seconds, Crawford’s enormous night was obscured by a 56-28 loss.
“He really played his tail off. He took it to the defense,” said West Virginia running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider.
