Cowboys’ Buffett goes wire-to-wire to beat WVU in opener

STILLWATER, Okla. — Tyler Buffett held West Virginia to four hits and tossed the first complete game of his career to carry No. 23 Oklahoma State to a 3-2 win Friday night.

In the opener of a three-game series Buffett (4-2) struck out seven and walked nobody, needing only 99 pitches to set down the Mountaineers, who briefly took a 2-1 in the fifth on RBI groundouts by Darius Hill and sophomore catcher Ivan Gonzalez.

Though West Virginia starter BJ Myers (2-2) fanned a career-high 10 batters, he yielded the tying and go-ahead runs in the sixth inning on back-to-back singles by Garrett McCain and Colin Simpson.
