MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Freshman Alexis Brewer tallied a game-high 14 points, as the West Virginia University women’s basketball team cruised to a 77-34 victory over Delaware State in front of 2,232 fans that attended Saturday’s season opener at the WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia (1-0) came out firing and led 18-4 after the first quarter. The Mountaineers held the Lady Hornets (0-1) to 11 or less points in the next three periods en route to the program’s 19th consecutive win against non-conference opponents at the Coliseum. WVU is now 12-3 in season openers and 14-1 in home openers under coach Mike Carey.
