In a move that has been clamored for but was unexpected, the West Virginia Mountaineers are expected to fire defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley, according to a report from CBS Sports and 247Sports. Lesley was promoted to defensive coordinator following the firing of Vic Koenning in the 2020 season and since then Lesley’s defense’s have ranked in the middle to bottom of the nation in defensive standings, especially in pass rankings for several seasons.
This season, the Mountaineers rank very highly in run defense, coming in at 39th nationally allowing 121.5 yards per game. The pass defense has been at the other end of the spectrum, ranking 114th in yards per game and 122nd in passing touchdowns allowed.
