MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s press, looking every bit relentless as last season, forced 30 turnovers in a 107-61 romp over Northern Kentucky in Friday’s opener.
Jevon Carter scored 15 of his 24 points in the first half for the Mountaineers (1-0), who repeatedly converted miscues into layups and dunks to lead 62-32 at intermission.
Devin Williams produced 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds despite leaving briefly after rolling his ankle in the second half. Jonathan Holton tacked on 14 points and 12 boards for West Virginia, which owned the rebounding 47-26.
Last season’s national leaders in steals, the Mountaineers forged a runaway with harassing, full-court traps.
