MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Eight months after her college career ended in the national championship match, Kadeisha Buchanan added another milestone to her West Virginia legacy.
Named the 2016-17 Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year on Thursday morning, Buchanan joined a sorority of winners that includes WNBA all-star Brittney Griner, softball strikeout phenom Cat Osterman and Olympic gold-medal sprinter Jessica Beard.
Mountaineer women’s soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said the four-time All-American “took our standard of excellence to a whole new level.”
Buchanan won the 2016 Hermann Trophy after leading WVU to its first College Cup appearance and was named the national player of the year by espnW and TopDrawerSoccer.
