Back line dominance carries WVU past Wright State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Displaying suffocating defense, No. 6 West Virginia held Wright State without a shot during a 2-0 win Sunday at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

Two days after knocking off top-ranked Penn State, the Mountaineers (4-1) got a penalty-kick goal from Michaela Abam just 2:22 into the contest — the 12th-fasted goal in program history.

Amandine Pierre-Louis earned a second penalty kick in the 82nd minute. The attempt was stopped by goalkeeper Maddie Jewell, but Pierre-Louis pounced on the rebound and chipped it into the empty right pocket.

Wright State (3-3) became the sixth opponent in West Virginia history to be held without a shot.
