West Virginia star pitcher Alek Manoah was just named a first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Manoah, a junior from Miami, Florida spent two years as a bullpen arm and spot starter for head coach Randy Mazey before a stint in the Cape Cod League allowed Manoah to harness his fastball. This year, Manoah slid into the Friday night starter spot and struck out 125 batters, a West Virginia record, to go along with his 8-3 record and sub-2.00 ERA.
Manoah is the 19th player in program history to be named an All-American and the first since Jedd Gyorko in 2010 to be named a First Teamer.
