MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — D.J. Reed broke up 16 passes last season, third-most in Kansas State history. Of course, West Virginia fans remember him more for a catch he didn’t knock down.
Reed played helmet-removing coverage on a play Shelton Gibson turned into a 52-yard gain nonetheless. The highlight grab jump-started a comeback in the Mountaineers’ 17-16 victory, and it marked on of the few times Reed was outmatched during 2016.
Fresh out of junior college, Reed became the Big 12 newcomer of the year as a sophomore, using that 5-foot-9 frame to make three interceptions, force two fumbles and record 75 tackles.
