For the first time since 1983, the West Virginia Mountaineers have knocked off the No. 1 team in the nation. West Virginia defeated Kansas 74-63 Tuesday night at home. The Mountaineers' fans stormed the court after the win.
West Virginia attempted 47 free throws, hitting 33 of them. The Jayhawks were just 13 of 21 from the line. WVU also forced 22 turnovers.
Jaysean Paige had 26 points off the bench for WVU, leading all scorers. Devin Williams added 17 point and 12 rebounds.
Perry Ellis had 21 points for Kansas. He was the only player to top 12 points for the Jayhawks.
It is Kansas' second loss this season and the Jayhawks now 14-2. The Mountaineers improved to 15-1 with the win and took over sole possession of first place in the Big 12.
