Wolves have held positive talks with Sporting Lisbon over a potential club record £38million deal for Matheus Nunes.
The midfielder rejected a move to West Ham last week as he has been holding out for a Champions League club but is being persuaded by Bruno Lage that Wolves can be a stepping stone.
Wolves are offering further add-ons and hope to conclude a deal this week.
Liverpool and Manchester City were also monitoring Nunes, who has made a major impact for Sporting.
Wolves current record fee is £35million, which they paid to sign Fabio Silva from Porto in 2020.
