West Ham technical director Tim Steidten flew to Amsterdam on Thursday for talks with Ajax officials over £35m-rated Mohammed Kudus.
He is viewed as a replacement for Lucas Paqueta.
West Ham are continuing to work on a deal for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi who is valued around £30m.
Porto winger Goncalo Borges, 22, is also on West Ham's list with Everton admirers too.
As previously reported by Mail Sport, Montpellier rejected a bid from Chelsea for 20-year-old Wahi, with West Ham serious contenders to nab that deal instead.
