West Ham were dumped out of the Europa League for the second season at the final playoff stage, losing 1-0 to Rumanian side Astra Giurgiu (2-1 on aggregate), in front of a frustrated crowd at the London Stadium. The Hammers wasted a stream of chances and saw others well saved by visiting keeper Silvia Lung. But there was no doubting that, without their injured players, West Ham look a very ordinary side indeed.
With the match billed dangerously as "unfinished business" by the club, this was more a case of being bitten twice. The Hammers felt they had allowed last season's tie -- when they went out to the same side at the same stage -- to slip away from them, even though they believed themselves to be the better side.
