Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa defends decision not to sign new players because the 'possibility of improving the squad was not there'... as he insists it was 'valuable' to keep star players like Raphinha amid West Ham interest

Marcelo Bielsa has defended the decision not to strengthen his Leeds squad in last month’s transfer window despite the club’s injury problems and relegation fears.

The Whites did not make a single senior signing in January after failing with a £20million bid to buy midfielder Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg.

Bielsa was able to keep hold of all his stars, including Brazilian winger Raphinha, who was the subject of late interest from West Ham and other clubs.

Leeds managed to retain star players such as Raphinha despite plenty of transfer interest
Leeds did however fail to sign Red Bull Salzburg and USA forward Brenden Aaronson

But concerns remain about the size of Bielsa’s squad, particularly his lack of options up front given the ongoing absence of last season’s top scorer Patrick Bamford, whose foot injury has ‘not improved’.
