New Notts County player-manager Kevin Nolan has revealed Sam Allardyce advised him to accept the challenge of guiding the League Two side away from the relegation places.
On Thursday, Nolan was unveiled as County’s 21st manager since Allardyce left in 1999 as incoming owner Alan Hardy officially took charge of the struggling club.
County are under a transfer embargo and subject of a winding-up petition brought by HM Revenue & Customs so Nolan cannot play immediately but the former Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham midfielder said he is excited at the prospect of arresting the side’s 10-game losing sequence.
