In David Moyes’ first week as West Ham manager, one of his first orders of business was to schedule a meeting with floundering Marko Arnautovic at their Rush Green training ground.
The Austria international may have thought it would be something of a get-to-you-know with the new gaffer but instead, it came closer to a telling off.
Moyes told him he has ‘power’, ‘pace’, all the tools to frighten defenders and yet he had not been using them under Slaven Bilic, and then came the warning.
Arnautovic was told that, just because he cost a club record £24million, he was not immune to being benched.
