Another defeat at West Ham could spell the end for Lampard, who has been in situ at Goodison Park for 355 days, but he has done his best this week to remain focused on lifting the squad as storm has raged around the club.
Such is the chasm between the club's board and the fans, it is difficult to see how it can be repaired.
