Beryly Lubala scored four as Wycombe Wanderers beat Brighton and Hove Albion’s Under-21 team 5-3 in the EFL Trophy.
The Chairboys had lost their opening group game at AFC Wimbledon but Congolese striker Lubala, with just 10 minutes of first-team action under his belt this season, bagged a hat-trick in the opening 36 minutes.
With Kieran Sadlier also on the scoresheet, Wycombe had the game won by half-time, although two Harry Howell penalties and a goal from Marcus Ifill, either side of Lubala’s fourth, gave the travelling fans something to cheer.
Stockport County eased into the knockout stages with a 4-0 win over Everton Under-21s, with their leading goalscorer in last season’s League Two title triumph, Isaac Olaofe, scoring twice.
