Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes on loan with a view to a permanent move.
Fernandes was thought to be close to a move to West Ham but negotiations with the club have stalled in recent days.
The Blues could now step in and secure a deal for Fernandes, who is out of favour after falling out with the club's manager, Bruno Lage.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Chelsea's offer is an 18-month loan deal with an obligation to buy for £55 million.
