Matheus Nunes on Wednesday moved a step closer to joining Manchester City after new talks with Wolves paved the way for a deal worth a possible £60million.
Wolves rejected the Premier League champions' initial £47million offer, prompting Nunes to stay away from training as he attempted to force through a move.
After Wolves' 5-0 win over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, boss Gary O'Neil said he still expected Nunes to be at the club after the September 1 deadline, but the reality was that Wolves were always open to a deal in the region of £60m.
