The FA will on Monday open an investigation into allegations Jay Rodriguez told Brighton defender Gaetan Bong: 'You're black and you stink.'
Rodriguez 'totally denies' using those words and is said to be deeply upset the accusation has been levelled against him.
The Cameroon international complained to referee Martin Atkinson on the hour mark in Saturday's game at the Hawthorns after Rodriguez pinched his nose and wafted his hand during a confrontation.
The players had come together during a tussle for the ball and Bong can be seen in television replays telling Atkinson he has been subjected to racism.
