Family to receive cap 353

Albion’s pitchside Cap presentations resume tomorrow when we honour the man behind one of the most iconic images in the Club’s history.

Jim Sanders, the Baggies keeper for the 1954 Cup final, couldn’t bear to look as Ronnie Allen stepped forward to take his Wembley penalty with the team 2-1 down to Preston.

Jim need not have worried. Allen duly levelled the scores en route to a 3-2 victory and tomorrow his son Terry will be at The Hawthorns to receive his father’s unique numbered (353) cap at half time.

Jim signed from tomorrow’s opponents Charlton at the end of the Second World War and went on to make 327 League appearances and 364 in all for Albion.
